The eye of the needle

It was fall, I hadn’t seen you for awhile. It was fall, it was like no time had passed. You came over with frozen drinks and a big blanket. We walked Winnie over to Wash Park, and set up a spot looking out over the lake. We caught each other up with all of the things filling our daily lives… laughed, and made plans for the future. We always were making plans, we had big dreams, and many places to see. There were high-schoolers drinking under the street lights just up the hill.. and when flashing lights came to disperse them, we laughed- as it was all quite familiar to our past. And just as we came, we went. We sat at my house for a while and talked, then I hugged you goodbye and replied I love you too. Then you went.

I wish I could remember that night more clearly, it was our last night together. Even though some of the details are faded, I cannot deny the feeling it gave me to be with you, and that’s what I remember most about that night.

A beautiful memory

Memories of Bangkok, the city of smiles, warm me on this frigid Fall day..
Sofitel Hotel. Backdrops of Lumphini Park and the BKK skyline. Feeling on top of the world. Casual Canadian tuxedo. Shenanigans with the staff. Only God can judge us. Blurred lights, capturing the progressing darkness.

Deserted beauty

Living, just to keep living- never realizing how fast life was passing her by. Seasons came and went. Blowing clouds, drifting to a dead end. Abandoned like a ghost town, she was a skeleton of what she once was. Broken and rusty where she used to be colorful and spirited. Desolate, but stubborn as the old rusty chains that bound her to the only ways she knew. She yearned for the life that once surrounded her, and fulfilled her. Nothing but time and space. Pausing, taking a breath, she appreciated her beauty, and the life that still grew around her decayed being.

A fading summer

The days are beginning to get short again, school is back in session, and the petals on the flowers are starting to fall. Slowly watching as the summer begins to fade far off into the distance. Another magical season, another warm adventure, another goodbye too soon. And now she watches as a necessary revival of salt water and sunshine fades away. And as it fades she is thankful, for a summer that will forever stay with her. For new friends, and seemingly endless laughs. It slowly is fading, but never from her heart or mind.

The rising anchor

The days began to get longer and the sun was shining brighter, but she was still floundering like a fish.. she was sailing in the Bermuda Triangle. It was as though her anchor was stuck down. There was an uncertainty that demanded an escape, an escape far off into the distance. She needed to set sail. An adventure to a place where there was no fear, no evilness, a place itself of uncertainty. It was merely a place. A place that allowed her soul to dance freely, and her feet to wander bare. It was a place where laughter and happiness were as plentiful as the grains of sand amongst the shore. Where ice-cream shops lined the streets, flowers blossomed brightly, and everything had a sunny pastel hue. It was merely a place, but for her it might as well have been the land of milk and honey. It was her happy place. And for the first time in a long time she was certain, she was ready to put her anchor down and stay awhile.

Many moons

“A Rose by any other name would still smell as sweet.”

As the suns change to moons and the moons to suns… days pass and no matter what, inevitably, both must set. The indefinite question is- which sets first.. and what does the single star do without the balance of her counterpart? The world around her cannot simply fall dark.. the beauty and love of everyday life must pick up the lonely star and carry her forward, the memories of the past rising and setting must remind her how she has come this far, the desire to be a light for those around her in a dark place eases her forward to continue cycling..

For if one day your sun doesn’t rise, you are given no reason to stop shining. For in darkness it is light that pulls you through. The moon and sun, although inseparable in their dance, are not alone, they are both part of something larger– an entire solar system. A system of mostly support.. but there are always the shooting-stars, striking through the night sky.. finding it easier to fade into the darkness.. leaving you to find your way through alone.

Quickly you realize the darkness isn’t really that dark.. as little glimmers of starlight reach out to brighten your surroundings. After all you are never truly alone. Both the sun and moon are necessary to form a day.. and you would not be able to shine the way you do, without the other– near or far, forever in your heart– she hasn’t set for good.

You want me down on earth, but I am up in space

You cry, but it’s as though we always cheered- I am dancing amongst the stars. I am the milky way. Don’t doubt it, darling. I am the beauty, the laughter, the joy of everyday. For I am what I was destined to be.. I am an angel of the heavens. Bouncing.. hopping… galavanting from cloud to cloud. You cannot see me, but I am here. Forever dancing amongst the stars, the kind of forever that never sets. Don’t cry, for now I am dancing.
